Wellington Rover Tours

Wellington Rover Tours offers small, flexible tours for travelers, wanting to make the most of all that Wellington and the region has to offer. 

• Wellington Explorer Tour takes just over 2 hours and takes in a 50 km drive starting from central Wellington. Stops include Mt Victoria, Island Bay and Owhiro Bay,  gateway to the Red Rocks Walk and seal colony. We follow the spectacular south coast past the surf beaches of Houghton Bay and Lyall Bay to the Miramar Peninsula (almost 35kms of coastline). Our favorite beach stop is Scorching Bay home to the legendary Chocolate Fish Cafe. We may stop for an explore before continuing our leisurely drive around the northern point of the Miramar peninsular and returning to the city via Evan's Bay, Oriental Parade, Parliament Grounds, the Karori Wildlife Sanctuary, the Historic Cable Car and Museum and the Botanical Gardens. Maximum number per tour 11 passengers.

• Rover Tours are the Lord of the Rings location professionals in Wellington. Full day tours include transport from your city accommodation, Orc sized picnic lunch, scene shots to relive the movie, short walks and informative story telling around the various film sites visited.

• Mountain Bike and Hike Wellington is a full day tour which  includes a morning drive, followed by a bike ride which follows a disused railway line track in a gradual uphill climb (30min to 1 hour) turning into a great downhill ride (30min to 1 hour) that drops 200m down into the Wairarapa on the other side. There are some very exciting tunnels to go through, forest to pass, disused rail bridges to cross and a whole lot of wilderness.The ride is graded beginner to intermediate. After a picnic lunch you have the choice of a walk up to the Punatangarua Pinnicles or wine-tasting at Martinborough's famed vineyards, a drive out to the seal colony at Cape Palliser, visit a ciderbarn, the locomotive museum or just head back to Wellington with a downhill mountain bike from the Rimutaka summit to Kaitoke.

• Golf Adventures with the Wellington Rover are a day in the country, playing a round of golf, enjoying some sightseeing and lunch. Play at 3 country courses on the Kapiti Coast, Martinborough and the Hutt Valley, enjoy a classic pub lunch and all the golfing gears to get you round 19 holes enjoyably. Sightseeing and commentary is included along the way and this full day tour is an enjoyable way to experience local courses and hospitality.
