Itinerary Details:

Day 1

• Arrive Auckland and transfer to the Citylife Hotel in the city centre.
• Walk around the boat harbour, take a ferry to Devonport and a ride up the Sky Tower

 

Day 2

• Auckland Zoo is well worth a visit as is Kelly Tarltons Underwater World
• Waiheke Island is a great day trip for swimming, walks and exploring vineyards
• Take a boat trip on the Hauraki Gulf with Dolphin and Whale Safaris

 

Day 3

• Travel to the Coromandel today and stay at Puka Park Resort at Pauanui Beach for 2 nights
• Drive via Miranda and stop off at the Hot pools for a swim
• Pauanui has a great beach - take a bike ride from the resort, swim or play tennis
• Total Driving time today: 2.5 hours

 

Day 4

• This morning join Cathedral Cove Kayaking at Hahei for sea kayaking
• Check the tides and visit Hot Water Beach at low tide to dig your own spa pool in the sand
• Drive to Cooks Beach - lovely safe swimming and catch the ferry from Ferrylanding to Whitianga
• The Fireplace is a good family restaurant on the esplanade in Whitianga

 

Day 5

• Drive from Pauanui south along the coast to Tauranga and Mt Maunganui - another great beach stop
• Visit Hells Gate thermal area and see a mud volcano and a hot waterfall
• Take a mud bath at Wai ora Spa
• Stay for the next 2 nights at Koura Lodge on the edge of Lake Rotorua
• Driving time today : 2.5 hours

 

Day 6

• Enjoy the splendour of this amazing geothermal area from the air - take a Volcanic Air Safaris flight to White Island this morning and walk in the crater of an active volcano. Fly over the Hells Gate Thermal Valley and along the pacific coastline on your way to White island.
• This afternoon consider a drive to Huka Falls and Lake Taupo via the Wairakei Thermal Reserve and take a jet boat ride with Huka Jet
• In the evening you'll be picked up from your accommodation at Koura Lodge and taken to a Maori Cultural performance and traditional hangi meal following a traditional welcoming ceremony onto a Marae at the Tamaki Maori Village

 

Day 7

• Fly to Queenstown this morning, collect your rental car at the airport and drive to Millbrook Resort where you stay for 2 nights
• This afternoon, take a ride on the Shotover Jet or up the Gondola and then take the luge ride down - great fun for all ages!
• Explore the town, lakefront and gardens and feed the tame fish and eels at the jetty
• Millbrook has excellent restaurants, heated swimming pool, spa and tennis

 

Day 8

• Drive to Lake Manapouri this morning via Te Anau and board the Fiordland Navigator for an overnight cruise on Doubtful Sound
• Wildlife is abundant and includes fur seals and dolphins - Doubtful Sound is both stunning and serene, an experience the family will always remember
• Driving time today: 2.5 hours

 

Day 9

• Returning to Manapouri, spend some time exploring Te Anau and drive onto the Catlins area taking the Southern Scenic Route to your accommodation for the next 2 nights, a farmstay
• Your farm host family with introduce you to their lifestyle and you'll experience how a working New Zealand sheep, beef and deer farm operates. For city - based children, meeting another family and staying on a working farm is a highlight
• Driving time today : 3.5 hours

   

Day 10

• Farm-based activities are planned for the morning - feeding stock and a sheep shearing demonstration
• Spend the afternoon in the Catlins coastal region
• Explore Cannibals Bay, the Catlins River and the Cathedral Caves

 

Day 11

• Drive to Dunedin
• Stay for the next 2 nights at Kaimata Retreat 
• Driving time: 1.5 hours

 

Day 12

• Take a trip on the Taeri Gorge Train or visit the Cadbury Chocolate factory this morning. Join Monarch Wildlife Cruises for a trip on the harbour and see the Royal Albatross colony at Taiaroa Head

 

Day 13

• Drive to Christchurch - stop at Moeraki and see the boulders, fish off the wharf and have a delicious lunch or snack stop at Fleurs Place, a restaurant right on the wharf
• Stay for the next 2 nights at The Heritage Hotel right on the Cathedrale Square and a short walk from the Botanical Gardens
• Total Driving time today : 5 hours

   

Day 14

• Take a walk this morning to the Arts Centre, great for shopping and street entertainment. The Art Gallery, Museum, Gardens and Park are all an easy walk
• Hire a canoe at the Antigua Boat shed and paddle along the Avon River, meandering gently through the botanical gardens
• Take a trip out to the Antarctic Centre near the airport and experience Antarctic weather, real penguins and a ride on a Haglund

   

Day 15

• Depart from Christchurch Airport today, a 15 minute drive from the city centre.
