The stark yet stunning mountain desert landscapes of Central Otago have inspired many arts and craftsperson's to make their home here. They draw on the inspirations offered up by nature to create their masterpieces. Join us on a tour and visit these remarkable people in their homes and studios and hear and observe as they work. We visit a woodworker, a painter, a potter and we sample beer, wine, juice, spirits and fruit. A delightful gourmet lunch is also on the menu and all tastings are included in the rate.
The scenery adds another dimension to this day and your guide will provide full commentary and history of the area.
- Central Otago Wine Experience (10.00am – 5.00pm)
A very young wine district, Central Otago is already flexing it’s muscles and becoming well known as the third best place on the planet to produce exceptional Pinot Noirs, Chardonnays and Rieslings. At the very edge of grape growing climates, this cool climate area is the most southern on the planet lying at 45 degrees latitude – exactly half way between the equator and the South Pole. We visit five completely different wine presentations from boutiques vineyard to full blown commercial wineries. Up to 28 wines can be tasted. Lunch is sublime, amongst the dramatic scenery of this arid and rocky place. Your guide will also tell you of the history, not only of the wine but also of gold in the areas as you pass through.
