Taeri Gorge Railway - Dunedin
The Taeri Gorge Railway is a privately owned railway train and line which runs from the historic Dunedin Railway Station on a 77 km journey through the rugged and spectacular Taeri River Gorge, across wrought iron viaducts and through tunnels carved by hand more than 100 years ago -
see map. The train runs through the gorge stopping at Pukerangi, a 4 hour round trip from Dunedin. In summer the train also runs twice weekly to Middlemarch, a 6 hour return journey with a hour long stop in Middlemarch, a rural service town on the Strath Taeri Plain.
With full commentary, photographic stops, comfortable heating in winter and on board refreshments the train offers year round, all-weather entertainment.
You can make the return journey to Pukerangi, or Middlemarch, or use the train as the one leg of your journey to or from Queenstown and Central Otago on the connecting `Track & Trail' coach.
- Connections for biking or riding the Central Rail Trail
- The Seasider Train runs from Dunedin to Palmerston along the coast on selected days and can also be booked
My family and I had the pleasure of using your railway and bus service to Queenstown a few weeks back. I have been meaning to contact you to say a warm thank you to the staff for their friendly treatment of us. We left a bag of souveniers on board. The bus driver could not have been more helpful, he was a lovely person who kept in contact with his base and made sure the train staff knew about our predicament. Also the train staff made sure we had the bags delivered at Queenstown the next day. Please pass on this thank you - we were so happy to get our bags back, and the trip was awesome, the staff made it fun and were extremely helpful, right from the man who got our bags on board to the staff on the train. Thank you for everything. I would highly, highly reccommend your service to anyone and everyone. I tell everyone back here in Sydney how wonderful you guys are.
