High Country Explorer Tours uses on-road and off-road vehicles, a scenic train ride on the world famous The TranzAlpine™ Train and jetboating on the Waimakariri River, to turn rural experiences on New Zealand's South Island high country farms into outdoor adventures, door-to-door from your Christchurch accommodation and back, all in a day. You will be picked up from your Christchurch accommodation and transferred to Christchurch Railway Station to board the world-famous The TranzAlpine™ Train, claimed to be one of the best six train journeys in the world. Sit back, relax, and enjoy a two-and-a quarter hour train journey across the fertile Canterbury Plains, through rugged foothills, along stunning river gorges, through tunnels and across viaducts into the picturesque Arthur's Pass National Park. Finish the first leg of your adventure at the Arthur's Pass Village, over 700m above sea level, in the heart of New Zealand's snow-capped Southern Alps, where you will be met by your expert driver-guide.
Travelling by 4 wheel drive buggy to the Otira Gorge and then to through the Arthur's Pass National Park to Flock Hill Station for a hearty high country lunch. After lunch, a 20 km safari around the high country station and the opportunity to learn about farming an operation that runs 10,000 merino sheep! The next stage of the trip is a 15km jet boat ride down the Waimakariri River where you disembark at Woodstock Lodge for afternoon tea and then complete the trip with a coach drive back to your Christchurch accommodation.
