  • Underworld Rafting  

A very special Cave Rafting Adventure in the Paparoa National Park. Take the rainforest train through primeval rain forest, explore an enormous calcitic cave paradise complete with an abundance of stalactites and stalagmites. Float through incredible Glow-worm lit grottoes and have fun bouncing down the Nile River rapid. You will be supplied with wetsuits, boots and helmets. A short climb is required to enter the enormous Nile River Cave System where you meander through a calcitic paradise of stalactites and stalagmites in the upper dry levels of the cave.

Down in the lower active levels of the Cave, you meet up with a slow moving underground river on which you float in your tube using only the natural light of a simply awe inspiring display of glow worms for navigation. You emerge from the cave into a remote and untouched world before leaving its tranquillity for the rushing bubbling waters of the low grade Nile River Rapids. This is an award winning adventure at its best.

Suitable for children 10 years or over with reasonable water confidence.Suitable for waterproof cameras only and swimwear and a towel required. This trip takes around 4 hours and departs from Charleston morning and afternoon.

  • Charleston Glow-worm Cave Tour

A superb eco-cave tour where you travel by the rainforest train through primeval rain forest and explore the enormous Nile River Caves. You walk amidst a pristine ancient "wonderland" of stalactites and stalagmites & "galaxies" of Glow-worms.This trip takes around 3 hours and you need to be able to walk for 2 hours on rough ground in some areas, and have strong footwear and warm clothing. Safety helmets and lights are supplied and boots are also available. An excellent educational trip, suitable for most children from about age 6.

  • Charleston Nile River Rain Tour

A short interpretative train ride in open carriages through primeval rain forest in to the magnificent Nile River Canyon. You pass through the film sites for the "The Lost World" film production and have time for a short walk to the Nile River Suspension Bridge. This trip takes 1.5 hours return from Charleston and is an excellent way to experience the beauty and drama of this quite unique National Park.It is suitable for all ages and costs $20 per person.

  • Adventure Caving

A full on expedition style caving where you explore an amazing sporty cave complete with abseils ladder climbs, squeezes, & crawls through cascading waterways. Following practise, you begin your mini expedition with a 130 ft abseil down Hi Hi Tomo. Down under, a scramble over boulders in dry rift passages take you to the active waterways of Te Tahi Cave. Participants must have a good level of fitness and full mental commitment is required - allow 5 hours to complete this adventure.
