The Taieri Gorge Railway is a privately owned railway train and line. It runs from the historic Dunedin Railway Station on a 77 km journey through the rugged and spectacular Taeri River Gorge, across wrought iron viaducts and through tunnels carved by hand more than 100 years ago.
The train runs through the gorge, stopping at Pukerangi, a 4 hour round trip from Dunedin. In summer the train also runs twice weekly to Middlemarch, a 6 hour return journey with a hour long stop in Middlemarch, a rural service town on the Strath Taeri Plain. In all four seasons, the train provides entertainment with full commentary, photographic stops, comfortable heating in winter and onboard refreshments.
Passengers can make the return journey to Pukerangi, Middlemarch, or use the train as one leg of the journey to or from Queenstown and Central Otago on the connecting `Track & Trail' coach.
