Transport New Zealand

Ferry Transport New Zealand

• The Interislander ferry travels from central Wellington in the North to Picton in the South Island, a 92 km, 3 hour journey. Sailings are available morning, afternoon and evening and Guest New Zealand can arrange all ticketing at a time to suit your requirements.

• Ferry, flights and helicopter transfers are also arranged between Invercargill and Stewart Island by Guest New Zealand.

Train Journeys

• The Tranzalpine Train travels daily between Christchurch and Greymouth, travelling right through the heart of the Southern Alps, a spectacular 4 and a half hour journey across the country. Travel across the fertile Canterbury plains, into the mountains and over wide braided rivers to emerge in the lush bush surrounds of Greymouth where you can collect a rental car and travel on down to the Glaciers or north to Punakaiki and Nelson.

• The TranzCoastal train journey departs Picton and Christchurch daily. This 5 and a half journey is a scenic feast of New Zealand, with the Kaikoura mountain ranges on one side of your train and the rugged Pacific Ocean coastline on the other. Along the way you pass though the village of Kaikoura where you can choose to break your journey, stay a night or two and go whale watching or swimming with the dolphins.
